Lifestyle changes
Many people thinks fitness is a goal. remember fitness is not a goal it's a lifestyle . a goal is something you will stop it one day, once you achieved. lifestyle is something lasting forever. yes fitness should be consider as your lifestyle, you can't stop it once you build muscles or whatever . if you do so, it leads to muscle loss, and it regained your old shape. muscles are like a baby, you should feed it regularly for a healthy growth. once you stop feeding the baby, what happens? definitely growth will stop and its start diminish. same could happens for muscles too.
Certainly lifestyle does matter for an individual to achieve their goal. but a person's genetics also contributes major role to maintaining and achieving weight loss or gain. weight related tendencies appears to run in family. yes it was proved. if a person's grand parents or his parents had a obesity it continues same to that persons too. one researches has proved that grandparents, parents and children's tend to have same BMI (body mass index).
One group of people says that, this correlation happens due to passing of certain habits from one generation to another. i.e, high fat cooking life style in family, or snacking junks regularly. while others strongly ignoring the evidence related to genetics.
Genetics types and its impacts
Our genes determines our height, weight, hair color, eye color, etc. do you know even our genes determines our body type. there are many type of genes contributes our fitness lifestyle. yes FTO (fat mass and obesity) type gene. people with this gene more likely to have higher body fat percentage. this effects because of their food preferences and intake. some says that FTO contributes these effects due to people with appetite control with their genetics. this named as "behavior's susceptibility theory". people with appetite phenotypes they will find harder to tell when they have eaten enough.
Like FTO, gene AMPD1 and APOE genes play role in how we respond to moderate and high intensity training. like the BDNF ( brain derived neurotrophic factor) genes impacts our motivation during exercise. research has found that level of BDNF is likely increasing after exercise. it already shown that it enhance our mental stability. it also proven that BDNF gene acting against anxiety and depression. our gene can impact every aspects of our fitness lifestyle.
Advantages of taking genetics test
You may knew that we can't change our genetics. but still taking a genetics test gives several advantages
1. For making efficient diet - If we know the efficiency of carbs, proteins, fats, by taking the gene test we could make perfect diet menu for the person. and we get accurate results. for example if a person has low carbohydrate utilization genotype, we would know that by giving low carbs diet for efficient weight loss. same as if a person had low fat genotype would benefit from reducing their fat intake.
2. For making effective program - Taking gene test helps to build better program for a person with more possible results. it shows how long you should workout, what type of intensity should maintain and how often you should exercise. you have a data you should build a better program based on their DNA.
3. Reducing Obstacles - The another advantage of taking gene test is helps to identify how to work with our body versus working against with them. you can successfully achieve your goal. and you can maintain it long term without gaining weight. and also it increase your motivation. yes if you work along with your body type, you will get more better results quickly and it helps to push you more. you can see the value of making changes in nutrition and training based on your DNA.
4. Better weight management - One study has found that the group of people who worked based on their DNA they can sustain long weight management. in this case 73% of groups sustained weight loss over 300 days.
How to take gene test?
Some DNA test includes blood works, for example if a person want to identify his cancer risk factor for instance they should take BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene tests. if they wanna test their insulin level then they should take NA2 gene tests.
But in fitness DNA testing is quite simple than another tests. we can identify our gene type from our saliva itself. it's possible by taking swab test. yes its begins with to run a swab around our mouth for 60 seconds and then swab sample has been collected in sterilize tube, then it sent to DNA testing labs, within one or two weeks you will get test results.
I will list out few test results samples here, the possible things you should know by taking DNA test.
Weight loss ability
Fat loss respond to cardio
Body composition respond to strength training
Utilization of macros and micros
Intrinsic motivation to exercise
Impulse control and taste preferences
Systematics inflammation tendencies
Together will helps to identify the efficient program and nutrition for a better results composition.
Conclusion
Genetic testing is the only piece of puzzle, just because of if you having higher risks of genetics factor doesn't mean you will not make changes, lifestyle still plays a major role. for this reason, you must understand that a specific genetic variation only predisposes them to respond one way or another. it doesn't conclusively or definitively the outcome. this is where making healthy choices comes into a play. by focusing on nutrition and exercise , they can use their genetic makeup in positive way.
what ever if you are into weight loss or building muscles, the resulting time responds differently with the genetic disorder persons comparing with the normal persons. still you may loss weight or build muscles. but you cannot be champion, you will always one step behind to the normal persons. but keep working on your goals who knows one day your gene will makeup in positive way.
